D#8 HW#5 PEER REVIEW PROCESS

the Peer review process is always very interesting. I personally reviewed Jennifer and Rochelle’s drafts and I though they both were very good. Now that I read their documents I know that I have a lot of work to do on my own. There are many parts of my document that are incomplete. I will be working hard to get the project complete. I also decided to use students for the class as my usability testers. I think this will be beneficial to my project.

lack of project manager

I remember a time when you had a group project in a class in Biology 101 a few semesters ago. If our group appointed a project manager our lives would have been much easier. We were very disorganised and could not figure out how to solve the problems in the group. One of the group member did absolutely nothing and of course the other 4 members of the group had to compensate. I think that group projects are very hard to accomplish because there is always going to be someone in the group that doesn’t put in enough effort. If we appointed a team or project manager we would have been able to have one person in charge and fix the slacking off problem.

When i was reading three chapters from the Handbook of Technical Writing I noticed how they are closely related to Chapter 20. Both books discuss the writing of external and internal proposals. External proposals try to persuade people who are outside an organization. Internal proposals try to persuade people within an organization such as employees of a company.

Tc in the 21st century is a very long chapter but it contained a lot of necessary information.
HTW also contained a lot of necessary information but in a shorter and more condensed version

Both books gave actual examples of proposals which I also find helpful.

I found many similarities in the content of the HTW and the TC chapter 12. They both emphasized how important electronic communication is in a professional setting. This electronic form of communication provides employees of companies with a faster form of messaging. You need to remain professional in every form of communication at work. Both texts discuss the need for ethics in all forms of communication. Both texts always discuss the importance of focus on the audience.

Both TC in the 21st century and HTW contain similar themes, wording and information. In chapter 23 Both books provide acurate information about how to produce excellent presentations and business documents. They both focuses on the audiences of your work and how to reach out to them in different ways.
I feel that the HTW is more of a how to document. It is structured as more of a “handbook” or set of rules and regulations. It provides technical tips such as font size and visual document presentation.
The TC in the 21st century is worded differently and is more of a collaborative approach to the subject. The TC provides us with a focus of the actual words in a document and the importance of an audience directed document.
